Initiative
1: Provide EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND PROGRAMS to LHIMA members
which help them succeed in the changing healthcare environment
and maintain their knowledge and skills at the leading edge
of their profession.
Objectives:
A. Provide a LA JOURNAL OF HIM which will serve as a peer review
journal with articles submitted by LA TECH, ULL, DCC, SUSLA
and interested LHIMA members.
B. Maintain and publish information concerning resources available
to LHIMA members.
C. Offer a high quality STATE CONVENTION PROGRAM that meets
the professional developmental needs of members.
D. Serve as a liaison to the Society of Clinical Coding and
LHIMA through the CODING ROUNDTABLE to promote quality coding
and resolve coding issues.
E. Introduce e-HEALTH and HIPAA ROUNDTABLES to provide the membership
with low-cost, convenient continuing education throughout the
state.
Initiative 2: Provide effective COMMUNICATION
AND NETWORKING opportunities for members.
Objectives:
A. Publish an annual issue of the "LHIMA INTERVAL NOTE"
which will be available on the LHIMA website. Provide membership
with monthly "INTERVAL ALERTS" via e-mail in an effort
to continually work to improve its impact and content of these
publications in a timely manner.
B. Increase ADVERTISING in the "LHIMA Interval Note"
and introduce advertising in the "LHIMA Interval Alert",
as well as promote advertising on the LHIMA website. Formulate
a working vendor list for State Convention use.
C. Welcome NEW LHIMA MEMBERS and provide information on joining
local
district.
D. Encourage membership to participate in the GEOGRAPHIC: LOUISIANA
Community of Practice (CoP) thereby utilizing resources available
through the AHIMA website.
E. Continue the communication functions of AHIMA Leadership
Development
activities and representation at the AHIMA HOUSE OF DELEGATES.
F. Assure that the "grassroots" members are informed
of LHIMA and AHIMA
issues and assure that the LHIMA Board is made aware of issues
from each
district through DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVES.
Initiative
3: Increase VISIBILITY of the HIM profession.
Objectives:
A. Provide an effective RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN to introduce the
HIM profession to individuals interested in allied health career
opportunities.
B. Establish visibility of the HIM profession through ADVOCACY
by the DELEGATES including promotion of State/National HI&T
Week, Privacy and Security Week, the LHIMA State Convention
and target groups.
C. Recognize noteworthy professionals in the state with an AWARDS
PROGRAM.
D. Maintain an INTERNET HOME PAGE.
Initiative
4: Impact LEGAL AND REGULATORY issues.
Objectives:
A. Develop appropriate positioning and visibility for LHIMA
within state
and federal governments to monitor issues and influence the
outcome of LEGISLATION, and to respond to external
REGULATORY/ADMINISTRATIVE forces affecting our profession.

5: Ensure the MANAGEMENT OF LHIMA.
Objectives:
A. Maintain high quality leadership at the state association
officer level.
B. Conduct MEETINGS of the board of directors.
C. Maintain the LHIMA BYLAWS of LHIMA.
D. Implement the approved STRATEGIC PLAN.
E. Maintain a permanent record of the meetings of LHIMA and
the Board of Directors.
F. Preserve the FINANCIAL STABILITY of LHIMA.
Initiative
6: SUPPORT the accredited HIM EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
Objectives:
A. Recognize and support the outstanding HIM students via the
SCHOLARSHIP
FUND.
B. Financially SUPPORT the accredited HIM educational programs
in Louisiana.
C. Support the HIM profession by providing opportunities and
resources for students, and members of LHIMA.
