The Health Information Management Specialist is responsible for Medical Record quality reviews, Forms Management, internal post audit reviews on scanned documents, monitoring and managing EPIC work queues, and special operational projects as assigned by HIM leadership.
The Specialist process includes reviewing and understanding governing agencies regulatory guidelines to ensure an accurate and complete medical record. Responsible for oversight of all forms management workflows to include forms structure and maintenance.
High School diploma or equivalent required. 4-6 years relevant experience or Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience. Experience in an HIM department with an electronic medical record. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of Joint Commission and CMS regulations regarding medical record documentation. Experience utilizing strong analytical and reasoning skills when performing procedures requiring attention to detail. Ability to make sound decisions based on analysis in the absence of a supervisor. Knowledge of commonly used relevant hospital and/or clinic systems, concepts, practices and procedures. Proficient in data entry in order to index records with speed and accuracy. Proficient in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point). Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: RHIT or RHIA preferred.
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 10 pounds is required.
